[re-up] LE BERRYTHON : FRAGMENTS OF THE CHÂTEAUROUX UNDERGROUND (1983-2009)

A taste of the Châteauroux Underground : influenced by TG, Psychic TV, Nurse With Wound, Robert Haigh, Berry Traditional Instruments, Concrete Music, Poetry, German Electronica and a touch of Nonsense
Rainier Lericolais compiled this for your pleasure. It's look like the TOUCH Compilations : some experimental stuff between broadcast recordings and some traditional music. But it's not Java or Bali, it's Berry, Center of France, and more precisely the Châteauroux scene which grew in the 80s around Pascal Dauzier (aka La Sonorité Jaune and SJ organisation) and V.-E. Guitter. More info here

If you love me, you'll love it ! Download and enjoy : it's highly recommended ! (and for the fans : I'm involved in some tracks!)

[video] PULSE - Music for A Fallen Astronaut, novembre 1990

November 1990, seven students of College Marcel Duchamp (Châteauroux Fine Arts School) conceived and performed a 13 minutes experimental/electronic improvisation piece during the opening of the exhibition of "Fallen Astronaut" artist Paul Van Hoeydonck in the Galerie des Cordeliers, Châteauroux.

The College Marcel Duchamp, from 1990 to 1995, was an experimental school where the students used to work together in collaborative multimedia projects, very influenced by post-punk, industrial music, experimental cinema, dada performances and body art.

School's Director V-E. Guitter, important protagonist of the early industrial scene in Châteauroux (see Berrython 1 & 2),  artist Richard Fauguet and close friend Rainier Lericolais advised the young students to create this piece of music and video :
camera : Christophe Alaphilippe & Stéphane Landry
guitars : Bruno Douet & Maxime Touratier
tascam : David Legrand
sound board : Henrique Martins Duarte & Rainier Lericolais
Some of them become artists, some don't. Never mind. At this time, everyone was.

WALTER RUTTMANN WEEK END REMIX (2001)

intermedium rec. 003
Walter Ruttmann (1887-1941) was a german director, screenwriter, cinematographer and editor. As a filmmaker, he created an impressionistic symphony with his experimental portrait of Berlin in 1927 Berlin, die Sinfonie der Großstadt.
His unique musical composition Weekend is a pioneering work from the early days of radio, commissioned in 1928 by Berlin Radio Hour. In a collage of words, music fragments and sounds, Walter Ruttmann presented a radically innovative radio piece (Hörspiel) as an acoustic film of a Berlin weekend urban landscape. (discogs) Disapeared for a long time, a copy was discovered in 1978 and showed how innovative was this piece !
Intermedium Records is a german label of avant-garde and radioplays records. These remixes were commissioned for the Bayerischer Rundfunk.

Choses incorporelles
with Stéphane Calais, Franck Eon, Sylvie Fanchon, Rémy Hysbergue, Rainier Lericolais, Miquel Mont, Edouard Prulhière, Bruno Rousselot, Daniel Schlier, Cathy Jardon, Hugo Pernet, Sylvain Roch.
Or, la peinture persiste. Les productions de ces peintres attestent qu'ils ont su assimiler les leçons - les plus prégnantes voire les plus radicales- de l'histoire de cet art.

CLAUS BÖHMLER (& HOLGER HILLER) - MATERIALIEN ZUR POSTMODERNE IN BILD UND TON (1986)

Edition Block - EB 120
Böhmler is agerman artist, born in 1939 and living in Hamburg. He studied at the academies of arts Stuttgart and Duesseldorf and was pupil of Joseph Beuys. From 1974 to 2005 he was a professor at Academy of Fine Arts Hamburg.
"Böhmler was one of the first artists in Germany, who were interested in modern techniques of the picture reproduction. By simply asking for the mechanisms of the technology and by playing with the possibilities of the medium he makes attentive on rules and functions, which escape the perception otherwise usually. Its handling radio, cassette device, camera, film or video camera is ironical." (worldlingo.com)

Nous voulons mettre en avant les rapports qu’entretient la vidéo aux autres langages artistiques et aux autres médias, et plus précisément, sur la façon dont les artistes s’en servent en outil de mise en scène. (La Mobylette)
