YUJI TAKAHASHI

ATAK006
Anthology of musique concrète pieces recorded 2005, except Kumo-rinzetsu, a live computer performance recorded in 1995, Und Flieder in die Sonne (1989) & Time scored for animation by Hiroshi Manabe and recorded in 1963.
"He was trained as a pianist to play contemporary and classical music. Meeting Xenakis in 1963 led to composing some electronic works, but later on he played more traditional music. In the last years he has recited Bach as-well as playing a laptop duo with Keiichiro Shibuya. He is the founder of the Atak label, which before brought Stillupsteypa, Kahn/Cascone/Steinbruchel and Goem for instance, but here go in a totally different direction: an overview of Takahashi's electronic works, starting with 'Time' (1963) up-to to 'GS-portrait' (2005), and appear in reverse order: the most recent pieces start out. But the review goes back first.
'Time' is perhaps the only real electronic/electro-acoustic piece, based on the sound of clock-ticks, treated in a rather raw fashion - but maybe not unknown looking at the year when it was composed. All the other pieces use instruments, voices, electronic treatments and sound like recorded in an improvised manner. In two pieces text is used, one by Gertrude Stein and one by Kafka, written on his death bed. (…) Not easy listening music, but the improvised pieces #2 to #6 are certainly great" (FdW/staalplaat.com/vital_archive/)

THE VITAMIN B12 - RAFT122 (2002)

Raft Recordings - Vinyl, 7"
Vitamin B12 aka Alasdair Willis (who played saxophone on " Juice Head Crazy Lady" in the Nurse With Wound's Huffin' Rag Blues) delivered with this 7" a "musique concrete" variation of the techno age. Good and simple.

Tracklist
A - 68 X 32
B - System Mix
"The Vitamin B12 is Alasdair Willis. Reclusive Brighton based author of contemporary surrealist artifacts. This single was commissioned for Rafts instrumental series, specifically with the 7" medium in mind.
The two pieces are vastly contrasting and perhaps some small clue to their aesthetic may be placed within the titles themselves...
68 x 32 is a Musique Concrete assemblage so therefore must be art, and as such it can only be judged by posterity, no one yet can really say what the record is like.
System Six is a melodic composition for tuned percussion sounds, with a surprisingly liberating, yet oddly mind-bending ascending motif, which calls on the infinite resources that can be gleaned from careful application of the laws of repetition, that can be gleaned from careful application of the laws of repetition laws of repetition of repetition. This record exists precisely because it was made to be." - Raft.

VA - HAUTE TENSION 'PEST OF' - LA FONDATION (1984)

A little gem ripped by Rain with Laurie Anderson (exclusive track), The Sex Pistols, Hunters & Collectors, The Residents, Philip Glass, Lemon Kittens, Hugo Weris, Bob Johns, Richard Bone, Jane "It's A Fine Day", Frehel "La Coco", Yann N'Guyen Minh, Disorder, Nini Raviolettte, Wire, Renaldo & The Loaf, Max Almy, Throbbing Gristle, Polyphonic Size, Liquid Liquid & Krisma !
La Fondation is a french art collective, connected to the experimental & post-punk arts. "Haute Tension" (High Voltage) was a TV program broadcasted once a month during 1981 and 1984 on french TV "antenne 2" (in the legendary "Les Enfants du Rock"), which made discover the industrial/experimental/post-punk music and esthetics on France (for example, Lefdup & Lefdup, Loulou & Kiki Picasso, Speedy Graphito, belong many others, made videos for the tracks played on).
"Pest of" was the last emission and Laurie Anderson appeared as a special guest with an exclusive track recorded live.
You can see the broadcast on alain burosse's website.
And get the ripped of the tape here : 320/RAR/MU

Haute Tension, Les Enfants du Rock, Antenne 2 , mensuel 1981-1984
prod : La Fondation (Michel Eli, Bertrand Merinos-Péris, Alain Burosse)
Real : Mathias Ledoux, Olivier Baudoin, Stéphane Teichner
20 émissions : experimentations vidéos et avant-garde rock art video post-punk
Extract of a Lefdup interview

New exhibition of the french artist & musician in Rouen, city of the seminal label Sordide Sentimental run by Jean-Pierre Turmel. For this occasion, a 45RPM with new music by Rainier will be released in a limited edition.

You can get here the tracks composed by Rainier in 2007 for a previous exhibition in this Art school (Rainier Lericolais : reader's digest vol. 2)

alice news: Fabrice Cotinat's Exhibition ST IRIEIX 01/15-02/27

Fabrice Cotinat "Confusion 1994-2005"

SIX ORGANS OF ADMITTANCE & GALA DROP - LIVE IN PARIS 2009-11-28

Psychefolk Master Ben Chasny played live as Six Organs Of Admittance (with the so cute & noisy Magick Markers' Elisa Ambrogio) in Paris in a gig curated by C.L.E.A.R as the first issue of the Fisheye Shows at the Espace B.
The show began with a performance of the so exciting portuguese band Gala Drop, a fusion of psychedelia, tropicalism, krautrock, dub, african rythms, tribal electronics
Sadly, I couldn't assist to the show, but in our beloved Tonton Mahood's blog, a mysterious Cheshire Cat gave us his recordings.
So, you can get here : 320/RAR/RS, approx. 35' for Gala Drop and 60' for Six Organs. Enjoy.
