VA - AU COEUR DE TRICATEL (1999)

Bertrand Burgalat run the Tricatel Label from the late 90s 'till 2008 with one idea : to make some intelligent easy listening. The sound is very cool, with round basses, psychedelic Moog or Hammond sounds. It's fun, arty sometimes. This compilation, the 3rd item of the catalogue, was done to make discover the sound of the label : french actress Valérie Lemercier, novellist Michel Houellebecq (perhaps one of his best works), April March and a special guest : Nick Cave who covered (slaughtered?) a Michel Polnareff's pop song.

Bertrand Burgalat produced this tribute to french-american pop-folk singer Joe Dassin (son of american film-maker Jules Dassin), well-known and loved in France, since the 70s.
Bertrand Burgalat is a french composer & producer, a Mute Records' collaborator and director of the Tricatel Label (April March, High Llamas, Ladytron, Ingrid Caven, Michel Houellebecq, Valerie Lemercier, Katerine). He worked with Crammed Discs, produced Laibach (Let It be, Kapital), Mick Harvey (Intoxicated Man, Pink Elephant), Momus, E. Neubauten (Ende Neu) and remixed Depeche Mode or Mekon (aka John Gosling from Zos Kia). A good guy indeed.
This compilation is not amazing at all, but some tracks are cool, funny or surprising (Murat, Apolo XI - I can sing the song all day - Dalcan, Comelade, Katerine). It joins together some of the French Indie Pop Band of the 90s and helped ex-Taxi Girl's frontman Daniel Darc to make music again and leave drugs.
