Truth Club - Sleight / Fote - Looking For Lost Toy (7" LeRey 1980)
Truth Club et Fote sont deux projets de Robert Haigh (Sema, Omni Trio) avec le percussionniste Trevor Reidy (collaborateur de Stapleton dans les premiers disques de NWW).
Peu de choses à part ce single, sinon un morceau sur la compilation Hoisting The Black Flag sur United Dairies.
A classer dans les raretés de la scène expérimentale et industrielle du début des années 1980.
Truth Club and Fote are two Robert Haigh's aliases, less known that his Sema or Omni trio projects. Here, Robert Haigh worked with early Nurse With Wound drummer Trevor Reidy. Thruth Club appeared in the United Dairies compilation Hoisting The Black Flag.

SALE TEMPS DANS LA RÉPUBLIQUE DES LETTRES

Ce blog va finir par devenir un cahier de condoléances...
La fin du mois de décembre a frappé deux figures emblématiques des lettres française : Julien Gracq (1910–2007), dernier monstre sacré d'un monde littéraire aujourd'hui révolu, et l'éditeur Christian Bourgois (1933-2007).

La mort de Bourgois m'a touché particulièrement tellement je lui suis redevable d'une grande partie des mes plaisirs littéraires.
Les éditions de Bourgois m'ont accompagnés dès que j'ai commencé à m'intéresser à cette littérature que l'on n'étudie pas au lycée et peu dans l'université française. La collection 10/18 était alors un laboratoire de la scène expérimentale et de la pensée révolutionnaire, à un prix modique. On pouvait y lire aussi bien les théories esthétiques de Trotsky ou Lénine que les recherches psychanalytiques dissidentes ou de l'antipsychiatrie ; Burroughs, Gysin, Ginsberg cotoyaient les oeuvres complètes de Stevenson ; la réhabilitation des Grands Rhétoriqueurs et autres figures oubliées du Moyen-âge avait sa place près des grands débats des Colloques de Cerisy (Artaud, Bataille, Duchamp, la Nouvelle Critique...).
Puis Bourgois fut le premier à publier, promouvoir et valoriser par de superbes éditions le meilleur de la littérature portugaise : l'impossible édition des oeuvres complètes de Pessoa, le choc Lobo-Antunes...

December was a sad and cold period for the french literature. Our last old great writer of the 20th Century Julien Gracq died at 97 and publisher Christian Bourgois at 74.
The death of Bourgois touched me particularly, because he's responsible of a great part of my literary pleasures. In the 70's-80's 10/18 collection, I discovered the Beat Generation, Medieval Poetry, Lenin's and Trotsky's Art Theories, Psychoanalytics dissidences, Stevenson's great work, Modernists and Post-Modernists Esthetics...
And Bourgois was the first in France, and in Europe, maybe before Portugal itself, to publish, promote and develop by superb editions the best of the Portuguese literature : Fernando Pessoa and Antonio Lobo Antunes.

Je viens d'apprendre que le plus grand compositeur de la seconde moitié du XXe siècle est mort il y a deux jours. Ma peine est proportionnelle à mon admiration pour son œuvre. L'écoute du Gesang der Jünglinge sur un vieux vinyl quand j'avais 17 ans m'a ouvert des horizons incroyables que j'explore encore aujourd'hui.

One of the most important composers of the 20th Century is dead. My sadness is as big as my admiration to his work. When I heard Gesang der Jünglinge, I had 17 and came to a new world I'm always exploring. RIP Karl-Heinz.

Pour lui rendre hommage, écoutez cette oeuvre absolument incroyable et envoûtante écrite pour quatuor à cordes et hélicoptère !

CABARET VOLTAIRE - 2X45 (1982)

Cabaret Voltaire (Chris Watson, Stephen Mallinder, Richard H. Kirk) est pour moi aussi important que Throbbing Gristle ou Nurse With Wound dans la sphère de la Musique Industrielle. J'ai toujours préféré la période à trois (1974-1982), même si Mallinder et Kirk ont produit après le départ de Watson encore quelques bons morceaux (The Crackdown, Drinking Gasoline, notamment).
2x45 est sorti sur le label Rough Trade en 1982 (Rough 42). Les trois premiers morceaux marquent la dernière apparition de Watson avec Cabaret Voltaire, parti avec Andrew McKenzie créer un projet plus expérimental, 'The Hafler Trio', tandis que Mallinder et Kirk explorent une musique plus dansante (electro-disco, précurseurs de la House et de la Techno).

2X45 was released by Rough Trade in 1982 (ROUGH 42). Tracks 1,2,3 were recorded in October 1981: this session marks Chris Watson's last appearance with Cabaret Voltaire. He left to take a more experimental curve with Andrew McKenzie in 'The Hafler Trio', while Mallinder & Kirk explored a more dance-oriented music (electro-disco, pre-House, early Techno).

LA GALERIE DU CARTABLE AU LAOS

Depuis 1999, la galerie du cartable diffuse, produit et réalise des films. Du 17 novembre au 4 décembre, elle a été invitée par l'association Bandits-Mages à la Seconde Biennale de l'Image de Luang Prabang, Laos.
Pour l'occasion, la galerie du cartable a conçu un tournage avec des étudiants, enseignants et habitants de la ville autour de l'artiste Fluxus Robert Filliou.

ANDREW LILES - LIVE IN PARIS OCTOBRE 2007

Andrew Liles est un musicien prolifique qui aligne de nombreuses collaborations, notamment avec Nurse With Wound. On l'a d'ailleurs vu au concert du Trabendo en juin dernier. Il est revenu à Paris le 27 Octobre, pour un concert aux Voûtes sous son propre nom, mais en compagnie de Jac Berrocal, autre dangereux énergumène qui a travaillé avec Stapleton et légende vivante (et alcoolisée) de la scène Underground française.

Andrew Liles sort actuellement une série de 12 albums intitulée The Vortex Vault sur le label Beta-Lactam Ring Records (Nurse With Wound, Edward Ka-Spel/Legendary Pink Dots, Volcano the Bear, Coil, Current 93...). Now a permanent member of the Nurse With Wound posse, Andrew Liles has gained quite a reputation with a series of records, recently on Beta Lactam, operating on the margins of crepuscular, decadent song and gloomy electronic sounds.
This engaging performance was elaborated with short instrumental sequences made of 2 or 3 sound samples at a time, with additional live electronic treatments, and prominent use of treated and looped voice samples, the latter quite unsettling at times.
Legendary french musician Jac Berrocal – famous for his 1977 LP ‘Parallèles’ featuring the song ‘Rock’n Roll Station’, his band Penetration live CD on Hat Hut, as well as his different appearances on Steven Stapleton’s records – joined at the end of the concert. I don’t know what was the plan if ever there was one, but Liles was decidedly in a ‘Jack’s Bicycle’ mood, to which Berrocal failed to respond, for some reason. His trumpet meandered from shard of sound to the next, in a quite far out free jazz vein. He brought some wilderness to the very controlled dish Liles had been delivering previously.

A technical note: this was recorded with a MiniDisc from the audience. The beginning should be listened to at a low level, since things get pretty loud later, especially at 10:57, the loudest part on my recording. Nonetheless, it deserves to be listened to at high volume, according to your amp’s capacities. A trully kicking ass performance.
